South Camden Theatre Company's 'Who's Holiday' is an Excellent Way to Spend Your Day!

by Amber Kusching

You saw her last when she was just two

Celebrate the holidays with Cindy Lou Who

Pull up a seat and fill up your cup

‘Cause your favorite little Who is all grown up.

If of Dr. Seuss you are nostalgic and fond

You’ll love this comedy about a blunt blonde.

The showing is for ages over eighteen

So keep the kids home ‘cause this show is definitely not clean.

This review is for South Camden’s “Who’s Holiday”

Which isn’t your typical everyday play.

The evening starts out with a one Mrs. Claus

Giving a stand up routine just because.

Alisa Stein comically portrays the jolly man’s wife

And explains raunchy things about the couple’s life.

From reindeer to elves to Sant’s large sack,

There’s no topic for which this wife’s holding herself back.

Her jokes are well timed and extraordinarily witty,

And her delivery is perfectly funny and gritty.

Onto the main part of the show featuring Cindy Lou

Who isn’t exactly the girl you once knew.

She’s brutally honest, and sultry, and flouncy.

And her hair is quite yellow and curly and bouncy.

She’s all grown up now with a life of her own

With a presence as big as her oversized telephone.

She tells of her life after encountering the grinch.

And her life, as she recounts, hasn’t been such a sinch.

Her tale is one of woe after getting knocked up,

And even a sad fate for Max, the infamous pup.

After a series of unfortunate events, she ends up in jail,

Only recently being released and making her bail.

She raps and she sings as she tells her sad story

In all her extravagant Christmas time glory.

She includes in her antics audience participation,

Getting the audience involved regardless of station.

She brings one victim up onto the stage,

Regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or age.

In this production there is no “fourth wall”,

Which makes the show charming despite Cindy’s fall.

With wit and flair and impeccable timing

The show is entirely made up of rhyming.

Donyl Allen plays Cindy and is the production’s costume designer,

Whose designs are well-conceptualized and could not be finer.

The costumes are festive and fully-realized,

And it’s clear with much thought that they were devised.

Allen has a plethora of experience as a comic,

And their portrayal of this character is truly iconic.

They are wildly funny and stunningly sassy,

And overall, pleasantly bubbly and brassy.

The stage is adorned with a brilliant set

Decorated for Christmas and as festive as it can get.

It’s Cindy’s trailer all decked out for the holidays

With Christmas stockings and lights and a fire ablaze.

Cindy Lou’s in her trailer on Christmas all alone, drinking,

And reminiscing, and joking, and talking, and thinking.

She’s hosting a party to which none of her friends come.

And it makes the brazen blonde feel depressed and quite glum.

She’s dejected as she smokes Who Hash in her bong,

Until she realizes the audience has been there all along.

She invites the audience inside to join in her party

And the theatre transforms so no one is tardy.

After the show is a party with holiday treats.

With socializing and drinks and plenty of eats.

The ushers serve hors d’oeuvres and pigs in a blanket

And the bar has a feast like the Whoville Christmas banquet.

So be sure to stay a while after the show.

You’ll want to party with Cindy Lou before you go.

This show is a great choice if it’s entertainment you seek.

The show is anything but mild and bleak.

It’s full of fun and holiday cheer.

Sure to brighten the end of your year.

Don’t forget to wear your favorite ugly sweater.

The gaudier and uglier are all the much better.

Cindy Lou has a prize for the ugliest one,

And who knows, maybe you’ll be the next one who’s won.

The show plays now through the seventeenth of December

And it’s sure to be a show you will truly remember.

Tickets can be purchased at https://www.southcamdentheatre.org/

And stay for the after show smorgasbord.
